About Kindred Spirit Magazine

Our aim

We publish articles and provide information that will inspire and educate readers so that their lives may be enhanced through a holistic vision of timeless wisdom, understanding and beauty. To this end each bi-monthly issue of over a hundred full colour pages, is created with great integrity, care and precision to provide the highest quality product in both content and design.

Who we are

Kindred Spirit is the UK's leading guide to Mind, Body and Spirit and was founded in 1987 by Richard Beaumont and Patricia Yates, following the inspiration of 'The Harmonic Convergence' in which thousands of spiritual seekers gathered at sacred sites throughout the world. Seeing so many different people and spiritual paths, yet sensing a common direction of deep respect for natural wisdom and a yearning for higher truth, Patricia and Richard created Kindred Spirit to offer a platform to serve such wisdom and higher truths.

In the Summer of 2002, after 15 years of tireless effort and inspiration, Patricia decided to hand over the reins exclusively to Richard and followed her new passion for African drumming and dance and is currently developing her interests in the Gambia. In the summer of 2006, after increasing the magazines frequency from quarterly to a bi-monthly, re-modelling it with the addition of a new designer and having renovated derelict barns to give Kindred Spirit it's own offices, Richard sold his shares in the magazine to Diamond Publishing Ltd. Diamond is a company with a larger portfolio of magazines, who Richard felt could better serve Kindred Spirit's continued survival and development in the increasingly difficult economic climate. His editorial associate of five years, Carolyn Burdet took over as editor-in-chief at that time, and just recently, Kate Osborne who has been with Kindred Spirit for some time, and who came from a background as a co-founder of a magazine which promoted positive growth has now taken over as the key editorial lynchpin. The continuity of staff remains intact and with Diamond’s backing the magazine is set for further expansion in the next few years. Meanwhile Richard is pursuing his fascination with The Human Design system and runs the national organisation for that knowledge base.

Since the very first issue published in November 1987 the magazine has featured all kinds of discoveries, whether they be in the field of spirituality or physical health and well-being or revelations concerning the inner workings of the human mind. New and progressive forms of complementary healthcare such as Zero Balancing and Holographic Re-patterning appear in Kindred Spirit next to articles on angels and the latest explanation of the workings of Stonehenge. We probe into the dangers of xenoestrogens, fluoride, and amalgam fillings while saluting the virtues of indigenious wisdom, sustainable technologies and positive social actions. We feature ground-breaking stories such as the inner temple of Damanhur, the psychic surgery of John of God, and the link between our genetic conditioning and the I-Ching - years before such news hits the mainstream publications.

Our deep investigative style and informed open-mindedness has earned us the trust of many thousands of readers over the years. The Kindred Spirit team has grown to include a 'hardcore' of individuals who maintain and continue to bring out a new creation two months. Each one different, each one a surprise. We take painstaking care to make sure each issue is both accurate and beautiful, for in the often hard-nosed world of publishing, we believe that care is a necessary ideal to maintain, and for us each magazine is a gift to those who are reaching for their highest potential. The name of the magazine is Kindred Spirit, in the singular, for each person stands alone in their individuality, we can and do come together to share our experience, but for us, human potential is reached a person at a time.

We offer a variety of wisdoms, investigations and windows into the huge remit that comes under the title of Mind, Body and Spirit, in the hope that you, the readers, will continue to make a difference. There is a rising tide of corporate, political and commercial interests that do not have any time for individual wisdom, health or sensitivity - we are here to put forward some of the alternatives, in line with a natural wisdom that will not be denied.

What THEY say about us

"Reading this magazine is like turning a light on in a dark room - brilliantly illuminating."

Robert Anton Wilson - Philosopher

"We are all on a wonderful and interesting journey. There are so many facets to it and we are learning old ones, new ones, all the time. For many of us Kindred Spirit has been an important companion and comforting friend - a true 'kindred spirit' - for this last decade. May you continue to inspire, educate and entertain us. We need vision, hope and a compassionate sense of responsibility. You supply all these. Thank you!"

William Bloom - New Age Visionary

"Over the years Kindred Spirit has become an important and established part of the Human Potential movement, providing a platform that has highlighted the work of many unconventional and original thinkers."

Paul McKenna - TV Presenter/Hypnotist

"If Totnes is the alternative capital of Britain, then Kindred Spirit is the alternative Times and Debretts, rolled into one! So often alternative movements fail to speak to anyone outside their own, often rather myopic, group. Kindred Spirit has broken through this barrier and I am constantly surprised by the people I meet who read it. It provides a vivid, sometimes amusing, not infrequently alarming series of windows into the sheer diversity of alternative thinking and action in the country today. It does so in an even-handed way which I wish was echoed by more established journals. I have to say I enjoy the adverts almost as much as the articles. There are some very strange things going on out there - but what is so delightful is that they all feel Kindred Spirit is a friend. To be featured in Kindred Spirit is one of the highest accolades possible for a new venture and one which my group has been honoured to receive from time to time. Thank you."

Martin Palmer - ICOREC (International Consultancy on Religion, Education & Culture)

"Thank you for continuing to be such a fascinating and groundbreaking magazine. We greatly appreciate your dedication."

Eileen Campbell, Managing Dir. of Thorsons - A division of Harper Collins Publishers

"I love Kindred Spirit; reading it is a joy. It lifts me like no other magazine. Keep up the good work."

Mrs C Waters, Cleveland

"There is a sense of 'kinship' which creates its own energy when reading the articles in Kindred Spirit. I am aware of a great 'emergence' of wonder and excitement and hopefulness when I read each magazine."

Mrs Gladwell, Leicester

"I have read Kindred Spirit right from the first issue - there is nothing else to match it; the variety and depth of articles and beautiful pictures. It is always uplifting. The covers encourage you to open it up, I look forward to every copy coming through the door. I wish it continued success. I feel it can only progress to becoming a name that everyone will have heard of."

Carole Richardson, Nottingham
